Professional photography can be expensive and compared to what you can create with your own camera, is it worth it?

Allow me to explain what lies behind the cost of the professional photographic services that we provide and why often today as in day's past, "you get what you pay for".

First off, we are professionals and only work with state of the art, professional grade equipment. Having tens of thousands of dollars invested in equipment from Nikon, Dynalite, Chimera and others, we are able to obtain a level of image quality out of reach of even the most sophisticated consumer grade camera gear. From image clarity & vibrance to the size of the final printed image, at every step of our art, we only use professional grade processes and equipment. This ensures that the quality of your images will be technically "state of the art" at the time they are produced.

Additionally, we bring backup equipment. If a camera breaks during your wedding, we have additional backup cameras to capture those moments that will not be repeated, or that cannot be repeated. We bring multiple photographers and assistants as needed to capture your wedding or event from multiple angles or locations. We own & use multiple lenses – wide ones to capture the environment and big zooms to get close to the action when it’s far away. We use a variety of lighting equipment, artistically placed to create stunning images for you. We have backdrops and light stands, tripods and monopods and several other different kinds of photographic tools at our disposal.

Each day, there are a number of things we do, including preparing batteries, memory cards, packing gear for weddings or your remote location shoot, we check and double check preparation lists, make sure the directions are ready and keep up to date with current software versions and equipment advances.

Upon arriving at your location, our goal is to use the existing conditions to create the best possible photographs for you. Are there power lines overhead? Is there an ugly trash bin in the background? Are the walls white or tinted and are there multi-colored lighting sources? (Remember those green backgrounds in uncle Harry's photos) What’s the weather like and what is it going to be in a few hours. Where is the sun? How dark is it inside the building? All of these things are out of our control, but must be accounted for if your photographs are to be their best.

Throughout your session or wedding day, we are constantly visualizing the end result. “Here’s a great location shot that will establish the mood for your album.” or “Here’s a photograph that highlights some details of your wedding that will be important to remember.”

When the day is over, and everybody goes home, our work is just beginning. Although we have already have backed-up all the images that we captured during the day, in the studio your images are downloaded to multiple image servers with redundant backups ensuring their continued protection from loss or file corruption for years to come. And unlike those photographic negatives of years past, your images will not degrade over time and may be reprinted equally well 50 years from now as the day they were captured!

We will then examine every single photo from your wedding, event or senior session, often thousands of images – checking for color, facial expressions, lighting, background, distractions and individually rating each image for these attributes..

We work with each photograph captured making sure that EVERY photograph will be as good as possible, often working 30 minutes or more on a single image. We will capture about 100 images each hour of shooting and will spend about 4 hours in post-processing each of those images. Your image proofs will then be uploaded to an online image gallery, for you to view and order prints. There is no time limit and no rush; your images will be kept online for at least one year after your wedding or photo session to make it convenient for friends and out-of-state family members to order your photographs. We will also create a DVD of your digital negatives for you that you can use to have your images printed anywhere you like.

If you order your prints from us, we will go back and retouch and crop the photo artistically for the enlargement aspect ratio that you desire (4x6, 8x10, 20x24, 16x24, etc). This includes removing stray hairs, fixing facial blemishes, making sure the eyes look clean, clear, and bright, making sure the skin is properly toned, etc. This is much more time intensive than the previous adjustments done and outlined above. We use only professional printing labs with calibrated equipment – so that the colors and sights you saw on your wedding day are exactly what you will see on your prints. If you’ve ordered an album, then the album is designed, proofed, ordered, and then delivered. If you order canvas prints, they need to be proofed, ordered, and delivered. We create slideshows of your wedding; we purchase legal copies of your music to use for these slideshows. We mat your images; build custom frames for your photographs so that the same artistic vision goes into presenting the image that we originally saw when your wedding or event was originally captured.

A one-day wedding shoot can easily turn into a full week of work. A two-hour portrait or senior session is a full day’s worth of work.

All this is done to ensure that you have the best possible photographs of your wedding, family portraits or senior session.
