You will gain exposure to the day to day operations of a professional, privately managed photography studio. You will gain exposure to studio lighting techniques, prop making, advertising, marketing, graphics design, new client acquisition, followup and marketing research. You will participate in developing training workshops, educational materials and advertising.
You will assist the primary photographer with research, lighting, shooting and post-processing and the learn the best practices of digital workflow. You will work with staff and studio assistants to maintain image archives and computer systems used in a fully digital studio. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Marketing and networking to find new clients
- Communicating with clients to understand their needs
- Preparing for photo shoots (e.g. scouting locations, scheduling, choosing equipment, etc.)
- Setting up or taking down lighting, backgrounds, props and other equipment
- Capturing images
- Processing images
- Creating final print images or digital files
- Mounting, Matting and Framing finished portraits.
- Archiving images
You should be enrolled in a degree program in still photography, photojournalism or related field.
- You must have reliable transportation
- Own your own photography equipment (DSLR).
- Computer experience (PC).
- Some experience with Photoshop and editing digital images and metadata is helpful.
- Experience with PHP, HTML, Apache, Linux is also helpful.
- Experience with matting, framing and other presentation techniques is helpful.
- If School credit must be obtained, please check with your internship coordinator to verify that this internship would qualify for credit hours.
Your internship may be either part-time during the summer or full-time over part of the summer season. If you need to meet a specific hourly requirement for school, your internship can be customized for your program.
